Students can apply for an LA Metro TAP card for more affordable transportation. Unfortunately, IAU cannot ensure that you will be approved for a reduced fare TAP card.
Â
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has its own regulations for approving passengers for reduced fares. Please click the following link for more information: College/Vocational TAP Card
Â
We can provide you with additional documentation in the form of a TAP Enrollment Verification and Official Registration Form, but your eligibility for a reduced fare may depend on your course schedule. Please click the following link for more information: Reduced Fare TAP Card – Request for Documents
IAU has no control over Metro’s standards for approving students for a reduced fare TAP card. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
IAU students may qualify for free and discounted transportation benefits through the LA Metro LIFE Program. Eligible students can receive unlimited free rides for the first 90 days after TAP card activation, followed by 20 free rides every month on participating Metro bus and rail services.
The LIFE Program is designed to make transportation more affordable and accessible for students commuting to campus, work, and other daily activities throughout Los Angeles County.
Students with a low annual income may qualify. Metro also offers a Self-Certification option for students who do not currently have proof of income available. In most cases, students only need proof of a valid ID and a Los Angeles County address to apply.
Activating your TAP card benefits is simple. Follow the Metro guidelines to apply and activate your free rides independently at your convenience.
