What is a Standard Applicant?

A Standard Applicant is a student who does not require a student visa to study at an IAU campus. This includes citizens, permanent residents, students with alternative study-eligible U.S. visas, undocumented students, and students that plan to study fully online. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

Photo Headshot

A passport-style photograph that clearly displays your full face, taken against a plain white or light-colored background. The photo should be recent and high resolution, with a neutral expression or a natural smile. Avoid filters, shadows, hats, or accessories that obscure your face.

Government-Issued Identification Document

A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is required for verification purposes. Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Passport (U.S. or foreign)
  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
  • Driver’s License or other state-issued photo ID (issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles)

The document must clearly display your full name, date of birth, photograph, and expiration date.

Admissions Fee

All standard applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application processing fee along with a student services fee. Both fees must be submitted with your application to ensure timely processing.

What is an F-1 Initial Applicant?

F-1 initial applicants are students who are applying for an F-1 student visa for the first time in order to begin their studies in the United States. This includes students currently living outside the U.S. who plan to enter the country on an F-1 visa to start their program. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

Note: F-1 Applicants that need to defer their Form I-20 start date must pay an additional $50.00 Form I-20 Deferral fee for each session deferred.

Financial Statement

F-1 applicants must submit a recent bank statement (issued within the last 90 days) that meets the minimum financial requirement for their selected program and campus. F-1 applicants that plan to bring dependents must show an additional $2,000 per dependent.

Optional (F-2 Dependents)

F-1 applicants that plan to bring their spouse and/or children as dependents must submit copies of their dependents’ passport biographical pages.

What is an F-1 Transfer Applicant?

F-1 transfer applicants are international students currently studying in the U.S. on an active F-1 visa who plan to transfer their SEVIS record from their current institution to IAU. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

Passport

Visa

Form I-94 or Form I-797A

Applicants must submit either Form I-94 or Form I-797A, depending on how they obtained F-1 status. The Form I-94 serves as the arrival-departure record for F-1 students who entered the U.S. in F-1 status. This can be retrieved online. Applicants who changed their status to F-1 while already in the U.S. must submit a copy of the Form I-797A Notice of Action, which reflects the approval of their change of status and current visa classification.

Form I-20

Applicants must submit a copy of all pages of their most recent Form I-20, signed as required.

What is an F-1 Change of Status Applicant?

F-1 change of status applicants are individuals currently in the U.S. on a different visa type who plan to apply for a change of status to F-1 in order to begin their studies at IAU. These students are not applying for a new visa abroad—instead, they’ll request approval from USCIS to switch to F-1 status while remaining in the U.S. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

What is an F-1 New Program/Re-Admission Applicant?

F-1 new program / re-admission applicants are students who were previously enrolled at IAU under F-1 status. This includes students who completed a program at IAU and wish to begin a new one, as well as those who did not complete their original program but are now seeking re-admission to continue their studies. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

What is an F-1 Reinstatement Applicant?

F-1 reinstatement applicants are students who were previously in valid F-1 status but have fallen out of status due to a violation of their visa terms—such as failing to maintain a full course load or not transferring their SEVIS record in time. These students must apply to USCIS for reinstatement in order to regain active F-1 status and continue their studies at IAU. Applicants must submit the following documents below:

Letter of Interest. The Letter of Interest will contain three parts: Personal Statement, Professional Statement, and Research Statement. Each part will be described below.

  1. Personal Statement. Please express in no more than one page how your experience, education, and training qualifies you for admission into the DBA program.
  2. Professional Statement. Please describe in no more than two pages the your interest in the DBA program and your plan to complete it.
    • Why pursue a DBA degree?
    • What significant qualities or experiences will be brought to the DBA program?
    • What are your career aspirations after graduating with a doctorate degree?
    • What obstacles/challenges do you anticipate having to overcome to complete the degree within a reasonable time frame (i.e., 4 years), and what is your plan to address these obstacles/challenges?
    • What concrete steps will be taken to manage your time and balance coursework with a minimum of 18 hours of study each week?
  3. Research Statement. Please describe in no more than three pages your research interests and topics to be pursued.

Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation should come from academic or industry professionals who can assess your achievements, leadership, academic potential, communication skills, and teaching ability.

Curriculum Vitae (CV): A CV demonstrating experience and qualifications including a thorough review of your educational background, employment history and highlighting main accomplishments at each position.

School Performance Fact Sheet: This is required by all California residents and F-1 students who reside in California. Initial, date, and sign the School Performance Fact Sheet and submit it in your application. School Performance Fact Sheets can be found here.

Financial Statement: This is a requirement for all F-1 applicants only. You must submit bank statement(s) totaling $14,400, plus an additional $2,000 for each F-2 dependent. If the bank statement is in someone else’s name, you must also submit an Affidavit of Support form along with a copy of your sponsor’s valid, government-issued photo ID.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma, GED, or completion of 12 semester units from an accredited postsecondary institution or foreign equivalent is required.

You must send original transcripts from U.S. colleges attended directly to IAU. Scanned or photocopied transcripts are not accepted. Transfer credits must be from accredited institutions.

For foreign transcripts, you must provide an official evaluation of their academic credentials. If transcripts are not in English, they must be translated and evaluated by a qualified third party. The evaluator must have expertise in the country’s education system and provide an English translation.

  • Course-By-Course Report – Required for transfer credit consideration.
  • General Report – Required for verifying an earned degree.
